  • Enjoy a bite to eat at the famous Carnegie Deli, just a few steps away from Carnegie Hall, Central Park, and Times Square. Order a giant pastrami or corned beef sandwich on rye—always accompanied by that perfect pickle. It has been frequented by celebrities for years, as evidenced by the photographs on the wall.

  • Stop in Harlem to visit the world-famous Apollo Theatre. This legendary venue has launched the careers of icons such at Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Lauryn Hill. Take a tour or show up for Amateur Night, which still takes place every Wednesday.

  • Visit the General Grant National Memorial. Commonly known as “Grant’s Tomb,” it overlooks the Hudson River from the Morningside Heights section of Manhattan. This is not only the final resting place of the General, but is also a memorial to his life and accomplishments.

  • Discover the past at the New York Tenement Museum. This groundbreaking museum tells the stories of immigrants who lived at 97 Orchard Street, a tenement built in 1863 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side that was home to nearly 7,000 working-class immigrants. See the home and garment shop of a Jewish family who lived in the tenement during the “great wave” of immigration to America. Visit the homes of German and Italian families who survived the Panic of 1873 and the Great Depression.   • Enjoy a walking tour of Grand Central Station. Guided tours reveal its history—from the original 1800s Grand Central Depot and its dramatic restoration in the 1990s to its transformation into today’s destination for dining, shopping, gourmet fresh food, and public events.

  • Shop for a real New York bargain at Century 21 Department Store in the Financial District. Established over 40 years ago, Century 21 has become a global icon known for top-quality designer fashions at deeply discounted prices.

  • In the Upper West Side, visit Alice’s Tea Cup, a delightful little tea room and haven from the hustle and bustle of the city.

  • Don’t miss the Transit Museum in Grand Central Station, telling the story of the New York Subway. While at Grand Central Station, be sure to visit the Oyster Bar for a drink and a bowl of homemade Manhattan or New England clam chowder.

  • Visit the Cloisters, the unique home for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s vast medieval holdings. The Cloisters recreates the experience of a Gothic monastery, incorporating architectural features of a French cloister, replete with tapestries, stained glass, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, and intricate gardens. Enjoy spectacular views of the Hudson River and the Palisades, or have a picnic at nearby Fort Tryon Park.
