A small "tourist" train (ticket included) will bring you to the center of Orta where you will have time to stroll along the cobbled streets and take a boat ride to enchanting St. Giulio Island (ticket included) with its 12th century Basilica and crypt of St. Giulio. Continue on through the scenic Vergante Hills and along the southern tip of Lake Maggiore with a brief stop in Arona to admire the towering statue of S. Carlo Borromeo which in 1698 at 115 ft (35.10 m) was one of the largest bronze standing statues in the world, second only to the Statue of Liberty.
