Covering an area of 203 sq. miles, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda along the Democratic Republic of Congo border. Known for its incomparable biodiversity, it houses 120 mammal species (including 11 primates), 202 butterfly species, 160 species of trees, and 100 fern species. With its 350 bird species, it is a great place for bird lovers—a birdwatcher can see up to 100 species per day! It is best known as home to almost half of the world's population of endangered mountain gorillas, which are quiet, peaceful vegetarians. There are four habituated mountain gorilla groups, and gorilla trekking to see the gorillas is a popular experience.
