Geneva Getaway 3 Nights (MO)

Chocolate…yummmm…it’s everyone’s favorite. It makes you feel good, and some of it even has health benefits! No one does chocolate like the Swiss, and no one brings you Switzerland—particularly Geneva—like Monograms! On this 4-day vacation, we've arranged your hotel reservations, sightseeing, and daily breakfast. Plus, to help you feel at home and comfortable in the city, we've arranged the services of a Local Host®, someone who is there for you throughout your stay to answer questions, offer guidance, help you navigate the city, and ensure your vacation runs smoothly.

When you arrive in Geneva, your Local Host will greet you with a set of materials to familiarize you with the city and help you get settled. You can begin exploring immediately and the next day, after included breakfast, we’ll pick you up at your hotel for guided sightseeing with a local expert. We’ll show you the Jet d’Eau, Europe's tallest water fountain, and the Flower Clock, a masterpiece of technology and floral art and the symbol of the city’s internationally acclaimed watch industry. We’ll take you inside St. Peter's Cathedral, best known for John Calvin's inspiring sermons during the mid-16th century.

A highlight of your vacation is an excursion to Chamonix & Mont Blanc, Western Europe's highest peak. Chamonix held the first Winter Olympics and today is an enjoyable place filled with outdoor activities, local restaurants, and shops. Your excursion includes time to explore Chamonix and maybe to eat at one of the highest restaurants in the world. We've also included a cable-car ride to the top of Mont Blanc, so you can witness spectacular, 360-degree views of the Chamonix Valley and the Alps. Just wait until you experience the beauty!

And did we mention your package includes round-trip transportation to Chamonix via a coach? Between the transportation we've included, the guides and sightseeing we've arranged, and the hotel we've booked—not to mention the comfort of knowing you’ll have a Local Host to assist you throughout your stay—all you have to do is get ready for an exciting adventure. Be sure to bring your camera!

Day-By-Day 2018

Your Monograms package includes an excursion from Geneva to beautiful Mont Blanc, Western Europe’s highest peak.

Bienvenue—welcome! Your Local Host is on hand to help you organize your time in the city where the art of watchmaking is present everywhere.

On your morning guided sightseeing, see Geneva’s international sector, with some of the world’s major peacemaking organizations. Admire the amazing Jet d'Eau, a large water-jet fountain situated where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhône River and visible throughout the city. See the Flower Clock, a masterpiece of technology and floral art, symbol of the city’s internationally acclaimed watch industry. Visit ST. PETER’S CATHEDRAL, an imposing Romanesque-Gothic church in the Old Town, that is best known for Protestant Reformation leader John Calvin’s inspiring sermons during the mid-16th century.

Today, enjoy a special highlight excursion to MONT BLANC. Travel across the Swiss-French border to Chamonix, a famous mountain resort where the first Winter Olympics were held. From the town center, ride a cable car to the Aiguille du Midi (Needle of the South), a rocky, 12,391-foot- high (3,777-meter-high) peak in the Mont Blanc mountain range with year-round snow; its terraces provide an amazing 360-degree view of the Chamonix Valley and the Alps. A lift takes you to the summit terrace at 12,605 feet (3,842 meters) for stunning panoramas (if the cable car to Aiguille du Midi is not available due to adverse weather conditions, it will be substituted with a ride on the scenic rack railway to the magnificent Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) glacier on the northern slopes of Mont Blanc). Leisure time to explore Chamonix’s center and enjoy lunch on your own in one of the many local restaurants, before heading back to Geneva.

Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning.

Meet a Local Host® in Geneva, Switzerland

My name is Olga. I was born in Egypt, as a Swiss citizen, and raised in the city of Alexandria. I feel that I was destined to make a career in the multicultural field of tourism. I have lived in Geneva for over 30 years and have been a local guide and tour escort within Switzerland and nearby countries. I look forward to welcoming you to my lovely city, to show you not only its scenic beauty, but also its cosmopolitan and historical qualities.

On a one-hour tour, learn about the history of the Palais des Nations, and see some of its important rooms including “The Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room”, decorated by famous artist Miquel Barcelò; “The Salle des Pas Perdus”, from which you can see the Armillary Sphere and the monument commemorating the conquest of outer space; and the Council Chamber, where many important historical negotiations have taken place, with murals by José Maria Sert.

“A village in the city.” This ancient market town that formerly belonged to the kingdom of Sardinia, is a Genevan version of “la dolce vita”. Its streets lined with boutiques, food shops, galleries, and artisan workshops exude a Bohemian atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the lively ambience on its leafy squares.

Also known as MAMCO, located in an old factory building, is a dynamic museum on the cutting edge of modern art in Europe. Supported by a stable of artists from the nearby Centre of Contemporary Art, MAMCO constantly reinvents itself, updating not only its exhibits, but also its interior construction three times per year. The works of Marcel Duchamp, the inspiration for the museum, are on display year round.

Emotion, discovery, reflection, this museum offers a unique opportunity to enter into the history of humanitarian action. Three separate areas, each developed by a well-known exhibition architect, allow visitors to explore three major challenges in today’s world: defending human dignity, restoring family links, reducing natural risks.

Trace the evolution of watch-making in Geneva from its humble origins through to its current pinnacle as the world-leader in the industry. The museum presents an evocative collection of timepieces dating back as far as the early 16th century, demonstrating the artistic and engineering prowess of Geneva’s past and present masters. Modern masterpieces from Patek Philippe’s latest collections are also on display, as well as music boxes, pistols and other historic items spread over the museum’s four floors.

Switzerland was historically a country of farmers, so traditional Swiss dishes tend to be plain and made from simple ingredients, such as potatoes and cheese. Raclette (melted cheese usually served with ham and potatoes), rosti (potatoes traditionally cooked – first boiled, then peeled, grated and fried in butter until golden), cheese fondue, eaten by dipping small pieces of bread or potatoes in melted cheese.

This museum is one of the most important in Europe with over 20’000 objects of pottery, stoneware, earthenware, porcelain and china. Built on the initiative of Gustave Revilliod (1817- 1890), its neo-baroque features set it apart from the local architectural style.

Plaine de Plainpalais is a huge open space in a rhombus shape located in central-south Geneva. It is most famous for hosting the biggest flea market and farmers market in Geneva. The flea market is open on Saturdays from 6a.m. to 6p.m.
