Other Hotel Options

Chowpatty Beach

Bring a little appetite to Chowpatty – loads of kiosks selling Mumbai’s favorite snacks like Bhelpuri and Kulfi are a must for first timers. Then frolic with a wealth of entertainers like masseurs, snake charmers, contortionists and monkey trainers. Chowpatty also has historical significance for the city, as a place where the masses gathered for political meetings before India’s independence. And at night, be dazzled by the “Queen’s Necklace” – a theatrical view of street lamps that light up Marine Drive along the beach.

Colaba Causeway

Capture a piece of Mumbai at the city’s largest marketplace for a reasonable price. Trinkets, shawls, food, antiques, clothes, shoes, jewelery, and art can all be found in this shopper’s haven. Developed in 1838 and renovated again in 1861 and 1863, it became a commercial hub with the opening of the cotton exchange in 1844. By the early 1950s the causeway gradually became known as the city’s most fashionable shopping center.

Chor Bazaar

Mumbai’s famous outdoor market is not exactly a haven for thievery, as the name chor may suggest. The bazaar is simply a beautiful congregation of people who come to browse, hunt and bargain for second-hand treasures.

Fort Cochin

Fort Cochin is the home to some of the oldest European architecture in India and has been a significant settlement ever since Cochin Harbour was discovered. Here you will find an extraordinary wealth of preserved early colonial architecture spanning the Portuguese, Dutch, and British eras unparalleled in India. Time spent wandering the streets of Fort Cochin will be well spent.

Santa Cruz Basilica

One of the oldest churches in India, this Portuguese built Basilica is over 500 years old. The interiors are decorated with colorful Indo-Romano style of decoration and outside you will find a Gothic façade with soaring spires. When Cochin was taken by the Dutch in 1663 the beautiful stained glass and the imposing Caryatids over the confessional boxes persuaded the Dutch to spare it.

The National Gallery of Modern Art

The National Gallery of Modern Art is a treasure trove of pre-independent and modern Indian art. From rare town-study canvases by the Daniells and legendary portraits by Raja Ravi Verma to Amrita Shergil masterpieces and prized creations by India’s finest Modernists - Tyeb, Husain, Souza and Ramachandran, the Gallery presents a showcase of India’s finest works. Jaipur House, the erstwhile palace of Maharaja Jaipur has served as the premises for the museum since 1954 and makes a stunning architectural statement. (Closed Monday)

National Museum

The National Museum has in its possession over 200,000 works of exquisite art, both of Indian and foreign origin covering more than 5,000 years of India’s cultural heritage and bringing history to life. The Museum’s collections include Harappan Civilization, Archeology, Buddhist Art, Indian Miniature Paintings, Indian Textiles, Coins, Central Asian Antiquity, Pre-Columbian and Western Art, Wood Carving, Musical Instruments, Tribal Lifestyle and Arms and Armor. (Closed Monday and holidays)

Connaught Place

Connaught Place has a long and distinguished history behind it. This sprawling market was designed in the shape of a horseshoe as the British believed it would prove lucky for both shoppers and shopkeepers. There may be something in that as CP continues to be Delhi’s premier shopping destination. Apart from being the commercial and business hub of Delhi, CP has countless restaurants, watering holes, shops and emporia and cinema halls too.

The Ghats

Along the banks of Yamuna River you will find the ghats (stairs leading to river) where the leaders and freedom fighters of India were cremated. The Raj Ghat is one of the most visited ghats. This simple square platform of black marble marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated after his assassination in 1948. The cremation ground of Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are also in the vicinity.

Chandni Chowk by Night

By definition, Chandni Chowk means ‘Moonlit Square’ and one of the best times to visit the market is in the evening, when a treasure-house of experiences in old Delhi continues to delight the senses. Come hungry, as there are plenty of culinary options to choose from.

Mehtab Bagh

The garden complex situated on the opposite bank of the Taj Mahal is known as Mehtab Bagh or the Moonlight Garden. It was designed as an integral part of the complex in the riverfront terrace pattern seen elsewhere in Agra. Originally, the garden was planted with fragrant flowers and used in the cool of the night as a place from which to view the Taj Mahal reflected in the octagonal pool and in the river.

Mohabbat The Taj

Indian heritage comes to life at the Kalakriti International Convention Centre which is home to Mohabbat The Taj, a state-of-the-art dance and drama spectacle depicting the famous saga of a King’s love for his Queen. The show tells of the immortal love story of Shajahan and his beautiful wife Mumtaj, highlighting the lavish lifestyle of the Mughal era and the hardships faced by the artisans who, for 22 years, toiled over the creation of one of the most amazing displays of craftsmanship in the world. During the show, a 12ft x 12ft replica of the Taj Mahal, the largest of its kind is lifted onto the stage. Hi-tech lighting, dramatic Dolby surround sound and comfortable seats fitted with multilingual options round out a mesmerizing theatrical experience. (August – April, 6.30pm-7.50pm)

Agra at Dawn

Rent a bicycle or book a tour to see Agra in its early morning hours. Watch as the city wakes and enjoy the early morning bustle at the wholesale vegetable and flower market and shoe trading market.

Vidhyadhar Garden

Built by Viyadhar, the chief architect and town planner of Jaipur, this beautiful terraced garden has several galleries and pavilions decorated with exquisite murals, depicting Lord Krishna.

Ram Niwas Garden

Built in 1868 by Swai Ram Singh, the garden sprawls over 33 acres in the center of Jaipur. In addition to the lovely gardens you will also find the Albert Hall Museum, the Jaipur Zoo, Ravindra Manch Theatre and several cafes and picnic spots on the premises.

Bapu & Nehru Bazaars

The ultimate places to get the famous Mojri shoes made from soft camel leather. With beautiful embroidering and vibrant colors these shoes are also comfortable and durable. Fabrics can also be found here as well as saris in colorful block prints inherent to this region.

Albert Hall

This museum, known to be the oldest in the state, was designed by Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob in 1876 to greet King Edward VII (Prince of Wales) on his visit to India. Positioned amidst the gardens of Ram Niwas Bagh in Jaipur, this museum has an assortment of rare articles on display including textiles, carpets, paintings, metal and wood crafts, pottery, arms and weapons, native flora and fauna, toys, dolls and even an Egyptian mummy.

Birla Temple

Dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu, this edifice was constructed of white marble with a modern approach. Visitors can marvel at the delicate carvings of symbols, quotes and mythological scenes that are engraved on the walls.
