Vienna Getaway

Vienna—known as “the City of Music”—has been the residence of more famous composers than any other city. Music is in the air, and we’re sure you’ll dance your way through Vienna. Why? Because Monograms has handled the details of your Vienna vacation and made it easy for you to travel here. On this 4-day vacation, we've arranged your hotel reservations, sightseeing, and daily breakfast. Plus, a one-of-a-kind feature is the Monograms Local Host®, someone who is on hand throughout your vacation to offer guidance, insights,—in essence, a "friend in the city," there to make sure your vacation is all you want it to be.

Your vacation begins when you arrive in Vienna. Your Local Host will greet you with a warm welcome, help you get settled, and give you materials to familiarize you with the city and to help personalize your vacation. The next morning, after included breakfast, we’ll pick you up at your hotel for guided sightseeing with a local expert. You'll hear the inside stories and little-known secrets around the famous landmarks, such as the National Theater, State Opera House, Parliament, and the Strauss Monument. The highlight of your sightseeing features Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburg family. You'll stand in awe as you gaze at the luxury and opulence throughout the palace, which is often compared to the Palace of Versailles in France.

You’ll also have a full day to explore Vienna on your own (with the support of your Local Host, of course). You may want to visit one of the many museums; ride the giant Ferris wheel at Prater park, a symbol of Vienna; visit the Hofburg Treasury to see the Habsburg’s collection of jewels and crowns; visit the gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral; or enjoy a Mozart or Strauss concert. You may want to do as the Viennese do by enjoying the atmosphere of a local coffeehouse. Be sure to ask your Local Host for suggestions.

And did we mention your inside visit to Schönbrunn Palace includes VIP access? This means you get to skip the line. After all, why wait in line with all the other tourists when you can be inside one of the world's most beautiful palaces? Between the sightseeing we've included, the guides we've arranged, the hotel we’ve booked, and the breakfasts we've included, all you have to do is get ready for a wonderful vacation.

Plus, your Local Host® will share local Vienna insights and share suggestions for getting off the beaten path, leaving you more time to create lasting vacation memories that are yours alone.

Meet a Local Host® in Vienna

My name is Jale. I was born in Istanbul and have been living in Vienna for the past 36 years. I obtained my Masters in History and Geography from the University here and have been working in tourism for 30 years. I love sharing my passion for this city, including its music history (I spent 8 years training as a pianist), art and literature with Monograms guests.

Traditional “Heurigen” Wine Tavern

Visit one of the traditional Viennese “Heurigen” (wine taverns) located in the north of the city, right where the slopes of the Vienna Woods end and the vineyards begin. Enjoy top Viennese wines and delicious food. Ask your Local Host for the most typical taverns - - one is still housed inside a former residence of Beethoven.

Old City Walk, Imperial Walking Route

Ask your Local Host about a walking route to discover the fascinating older parts of Vienna´s historic city center with its legends and paths; or the Imperial Route to see classic architecture, elegant boulevards, the Hofburg Palace and other memorable sites.

Belvedere

Walk up to the Belvedere for splendid views over Vienna and visit its museum with the beautiful painting “the Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. A must if you are in Vienna!!!

The Sigmund Freud Museum

Make your own analysis of the famed psychological pioneer in the place where he lived and worked for nearly 50 years. See Freud's personal possessions as well as the largest psycho-analysis library in Europe.

Fine Arts Museum

Thanks to the acquisitions by and the patronage of the House of Habsburg, the Museum of Fine Arts has an unrivaled collection of old masters, including a vast selection of works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

Imperial Crypt

Visit the Imperial Crypt for a fascinating glimpse into the past. It is located beneath the Capuchin Church and members of Austria’s former Habsburg dynasty have been entombed there since 1633.

Spanish Riding School

Equestrian buffs will find this Viennese institution irresistible. Founded in 1572, it's the oldest and last riding school in the world where classic dressage is still practiced in its purest form. See world-famous Lipizzaner stallions go through their steps.

House of Music

What better place than Vienna to walk the halls of music and peek into its future. Listen to what an unborn child hears in the womb, paint a picture with a palette of tones, or steer a note through a musical landscape.

The Vienna Naschmarkt

A Viennese institution in the city center, this colorful market dates back to the 16th century. There are small restaurants and cafés nearby for lunch and dinner.

Spittelberg

Also know as the “village in the city,” Spittelberg is the city’s second largest pedestrian zone with well preserved historical buildings, cobble-stone streets, and idyllic squares. A great place to relax, just a few minutes walk from the city center.

Secession

Visit the Art Nouveau building famous for its leaf-work dome (“golden cabbage”) and for the 34 meter long Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt. The artists’ motto found about the entrance: ”To each time its art. To art its freedom.”

Wiener Schnitzel, Apfelstrudel

Sample the classic Wiener schnitzel or Tafelspitz, and try apricot Schnapps. Treat yourself to Apfelstrudel, coffee and chocolate cake, or other sweet delicacies in the traditional Viennese coffee houses.

Shopping

Walk along the Kärntnerstrasse and/or Mariahilferstrasse … shop for concert music DVDs, crystal glass, enamel jewelry or ornaments, wool lodenware, Viennese wafer biscuits, and Mozart chocolate.
